  • Work a lot. You power through injuries, lunch, even family holidays. And you find it hard to break away.
  • Go into daylong twitter/comment/email loops.
  • Reply to emails before… or during… breakfast.
  • Are possibly the most bend-resistant, flexibility-challenged, non-limber person you know.
  • Suspect your body is slowly shrinking. Aching wrists, awkward posture, uneven breathing. Maybe it’s an injury, maybe it’s aging, maybe it’s that you sit at a dang desk all day.
  • Would love to try yoga. Or meditation. Just once. Or just one more time.
  • Fear weird smells, any kind of chanting, people who carry their own yoga mats, and the term universal consciousness.
  • Feel called to be creative, but can’t always produce epiphanies on tap.
  • Luxuriate in wearing your pajamas to work.
  • Like to have fun, or want to remember how.
  • Think “time off” is working from bed.
  • Need structure and accountability to remember to take care of yourself.

I don’t know about you, but this sure describes me.

Even though I teach yoga and run a yoga studio, I often have a hard time remembering to slow down and take care of myself. At any point there are a hundred other “productive” things I could be doing.

Maybe you relate.

What if, together, we instead:

  • Asserted our right to take time for ourselves
  • Gave ourselves permission to go about it in our own messy ways
  • Admired others who are doing this with us

No time for a real yoga class? Right this way, please.

Hi Michele, I found your great website looking for a stretching class. I’ve done some yoga in the past, but never kept up with a practice. Last year I starte to have pain in my right hip and learned I have some hip erosion (probably from over use). My doctor and physical therapist encourage regular exercise, which I’m good with, but I need to be cautious re: certain positions that cause pain. Do you think the type of yoga you teach would be helpful? Let me know. My orthopedic doctor has cautioned me re certain positions in yoga, specifically bending movement of my right knee across my torso up towards my left shoulder. I’d appreciate your input and thought.
